Great Star Trek Technologies We Don’t Want in Real Life
We have been reading a lot of articles on the Internet celebrating the great wonders of Star Trek tech, but not everything on this famous movie would be good in real life. Of course, cell phones or smartphones, portable data tablets, holodecks, and universal translators are great devices, but there are also some that are not that incredible. In this article, let’s dig deeper on these amazing devices but are not really applicable in real life. We will concentrate on food replicators, synthehol, and transporters.
1. The Amazing Food Replicators. Do you want android machines to cook your food? How will the food replicator know the taste of the food? For people who don’t really cook, it may be a good idea for them to have a food replicator, but definitely not for mothers and health and fitness enthusiasts. While the personalities in the Star Trek universe greatly depend on android cooks, the real world still needs human touch and human taste buds. The food replicators seen in Star Trek utilize a minimal number of resources because the Federation is a giant bureaucratic organization. The world will be so sad not to ever taste a gourmet meal gain, so we must still be grateful because many people are still interested in learning culinary and serve healthy and hearty meals.
2. Not a good alcohol for Synthehol! There are thousands of mortality rate resulting from alcoholism every year and so as drunk driving. It is not sensible and suitable to have a substance that can degrade the judgment of your crew on a star ship. The personalities in the Star Trek universe don’t hold a candle to the real stuff, and officers are usually breaking them out behind closed doors, with Romulan wine still showing up at times. Besides you not researching on the top 10 wine coolers on the star system, why would somebody care if the stuff is real or not. The only conflict is that we drink alcohol both to achieve the desired effects and the taste.
3. Travel anywhere and anytime with transporters. Yes, you can save so much time to go to one place to another using a transporter just at the blink of an eye. Do you want to be one of the crew members of Science Officer Commander Sonak who was unluckily slated to beam aboard immediately after? Despite of cloud technologies, data loss is still a real thing in the digital world. We admit it, the world is scary, so be careful what you wish for.
